songs: Travel Light

Written in Austin, TX, after having met a pretty girl and fellow musician. We had planned to meet after the show at the hotel we were both staying in, and I promised to have a new song written by the time I got there. This was it.

I belong to no one
I blow like dust across the land
My lonely souls’ been crying out
But I aint been listening

I need a song to save me
I need a girl to sing it right
Won’t you sing for me tonight?

I don’t need to tell you
‘Cause you know as well as I
How this path we’ve chosen
Takes it’s toll and takes it with stride

If you’re hurting badly
If you’re sick with wondering
Hear me sing… Just hear me sing

[c]
I’ll take your heart with mine
I’ll carry thoughts of you to get me by
As long as there’s a song to write
As long as you are singing I
Will carry on, I’ll try
To get along, I’ll learn to love this life
I’ll sing out for you every night
Until next time
Travel light

Another night is over
Or so the sound of feet says
The staff is cleaning, folding seats
It’s time to leave But I’m not ready yet

Just one more song for my sake
Through this nightclub’s P.A.
She’ll hear me play, she’ll hear me play

[c]

I can’t go home
I’ve been gone too long
Some may call that wanderlust
But I just think I lost my trust

And so this song
Will take me your way
It might not seem like much
But I just wanted the chance to say

[c]
