songs: Still Looking
I'd gotten into a conversation with a new acquaintance about psychedelic drugs... It was still too early in my recovery for me to be alone with those thoughts, so they offered me a couch to crash on at their place in Malibu. The next morning, I wrote this song on the deck overlooking the ocean. The song has nothing to do with the above scenario, but that's where it comes from.

Call it a deal: you’ll cut me off
I'll play my part and write a sad song
Oh, I thought I knew you better than that, well
I guess I had you figured out wrong
I should have slowed myself down some
You said you loved me, if you did
You didn't really let it show much
Not to hold a grudge or sound ungrateful, but
I think you need some time to grow up
You need some time out on your own, Love.
[c]
I am alone
I guess that's free
And I've got everything I need
Now, all I want's someone to share it with
The weight of trust, fidelity
A love with sensibilities
I've had it once,
I'll find it once again
It seems you've given up on that
But I'm still looking
You say our stars do not align
And that astrology denies hope
In truth I don't know much about the planets but
I think intention's all a sign shows
Reflecting what our minds hold
[c]
For a heart, for a home, for a place where I can go
When the pessimism of the world
Has left me feeling cold
And I believe in love
Cause I have seen it once
And I will see it once again
So, in a way this is the end
But I'll just keep on looking, and looking, and looking
[c]
It seems you've given up on that
You took the stance that nothing lasts
And I don't plan to hold you back
Cause I'm still looking
