songs: Perfect Harmony
Written in 2011.
I heard there’s a song
That you sing when you’re dead
And the words are all torn
From the books that you’ve read
And the music’s each tone
That’s ever entered your head
But it takes no time at all
For you to hear them again
[c]
Make sure all your notes are
In perfect harmony
I heard there’s a captain
Gone down with his ship
He was fishing for smelt
But he found Moby Dick
And in his moment of peril
He had one dying wish
To remember the song
His mom sang to her kids
[c]
Everyone knows
What it feels like to cry
When your heart says “Enough!
I’ve got nothing to hide.”
So when your eyes get welled up
Don’t just hold it inside
For even sorrow’s a sign
That you’re living your life
[c]
About that song I heard
We all sing when we go
I pray you’ll fill it with wisdom
And courage and hope
I pray each living soul
Will find it’s own way home
For a song’s not a song
When you sing it alone
