songs: Ever and After
This is the first song I ever wrote with a keyboard. During my freshman year of high school, I saved up some money and bought a cheap electric piano, and later that night, I penned this tune. It was recorded for Nine Sleepless Nights, and even to this day I am sometimes asked to play it. I never do, though. It's a lousy song, and it's embarrassing for me to claim it as my own.

I know that other guys don’t need to feel rich
But I do, yeah, I do
That’s why I chose to spend my life doing this
‘Cause I knew, yeah, I knew
We’ve got something here inside
That other’s just imagine they can buy
Make it a date
Tell me when and I’ll say
As sure as life will end
I’ll love you ever and after
I’ll love you ever and after
Let’s both run away
Find a place to live where we’ll stay
We’ll make a better way
I’ll love you ever and after
Our love can make disaster fade away
And if time tries to hurt you
It just won’t get to
I will protect you, keep you beautiful
Run away, come with me
Let’s hurry, leave quickly
So we’re still young
Cause we’ve got something here
That other people envy
Other people fear
[c]
Well maybe you’re okay without a place to go
Oh, I don’t know
I don’t need their double standards
All I need is you, and I’ll get through
‘Cause sitting here, without a cent
I feel rich next to you.
