songs: A Song For Allison
Allison was one of my A&R people at Epic Records, and out of fairness to her, I should say that there was never a romance between us beyond the bounds of my own imagination. Still, I found myself inspired to write several songs about her, and this is one of them.

I met a girl with an honest smile
Walked with her to the bar
We sat and talked a while
We shared a drink
We put our thoughts on trial
And she tired some thoughts on me
She said that life’s like a symphony
You’ve got to listen close to hear the harmony
Said that no one knows
Just where they’re meant to be
And I don’t think I disagree
[c]
You know I learn something new
Every day like you told me to
Allison, I wrote this song for you.
I walked her out and the street was wet
It must have rained while we were locked away from it
And in time I changed but never did forget
All the words she chose and how well they fit
She grabbed a taxi, then, she grabbed my arm
And how she kissed my cheek, and how her lips were warm
It left a mark on me it left a hole that burns
It left me waiting where I stand
[c]
She got inside and rolled the window down
She said that life’s a ride she said she’d see me round
I said I tend to hide
She said you’re thinking too much now
And that time would ease my doubts.
